Time to Dream

I was reading an article about the proven benefits of daydreaming.

It shares this fun little chart;

The Scientifically Proven Benefits of Daydreaming
https://www.bachelorsdegreeonline.com/blog/2012/the-scientifically-proven-benefits-of-daydreaming/

Like many, I was often in trouble with teachers in my youth, for wasting my time being a day dreamer.

  • From promoting creativity
  • To problem solving
  • To increasing your IQ
  • To lowering the blood pressure

Turns out day dreaming can be quite a good way to spend your time!

If you have visited this blog in the past, you will find that am quite fond of cloud watching.

It is my favorite way to “Day dream” if you will.

There are many ways to “use” that day dream time; or “Quietude” as I like to call it.

The article mentions ““good daydreaming,” as in, when the mind is exploring imagination or creativity. “Bad daydreaming,” like focusing on a negative comment”.

One is helpful, the other not.

I enjoy reading a bit of scripture, (good daydreaming) and then using that time to consider what I’ve read.

Example;

TLB (The Living Bible) In this act we see what real love is: it is not our love for God but his love for us when he sent his Son to satisfy God’s anger against our sins.

  • What does it say?
  • What does it mean?
    • How much does God love me?
    • How does this make me feel?
  • There may be more questions.
  • Or there may simply be a space of calm and quiet.

Sometimes absolute silence is in order.

Other times call for a little quiet music.

Music without words could be less distracting.

Sometimes staring out the window.

Sometimes a little video will help the process.

Join me if you will, for just a moment of quiet reflection,

a little daydreaming session.

The world we live in will not give us a quiet place to be.
Sometimes we must find that place for ourselves.
A place to rest our soul, our body and our spirit.

I hope you were able to enjoy a few minutes of “Quietude” with me.

Hope to see you again the next time around.

What Was That You Said?

“If my kids ever turned out like you I’d kill myself”.

WHAT ON EARTH???

These words said to him by one set in charge of leading and guiding him, one whose job was to help him to find his potential, not destroy it.

I’ve heard many horror stories like Rusty’s. I am sure you have as well.

Perhaps, like me, you were the one on the other end of those destructive words.

It has been scientifically proven that the words we TELL OURSELVES, can have a crippling effect on how we develop.

Oh the words we say over our children!

About them. In front of them. In front of others.

When those words are SPOKEN over us, the effects can be deadly.

In John 6:63 (ESV) It says; It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

If the spirit speaks life, then it stands to reason that it is evil that speaks death to living beings.

The nasty things that are said to us burrow deeply into our hearts.

They become “Our truth”, even though that is not how God intended it to be for us.

The Harvard Business Review says five positives to one negative is a good ratio for success.

Remember Mearle from Rusty’s story above?

In my case, I had two Mearles.

First was a pastor named Gary, the second an apostolic teacher named Sharon.

These two never gave up on me. They encouraged me into a much more life affirming thought life than I had ever had before.

They still encourage me today.

Now I am here with you, espousing a life of “Quietude” for your own general well being, helping you to overcome the awful things spoken over your life.

For Rusty, he created one eighty, to help others to overcome the effects of the negative words and declarations thrust upon them by others. Visit his site and see what a positive thought life can do!

Three Ideas to Make a Difference

I always joke that my husband’s middle name should actually be “Service”.

If you can’t find him in the grocery parking lot, look for the car with the hood open – look there, that’s where you’ll find him.

If he can’t fix it, or help you in some way – he’ll find someone who can.

He is energized by helping others, and helping, and helping, and helping.

Lazy is not in his character, his “No” button, sometimes gets stuck.

But all in all, he inspires others to do good.

He leaves me in the dust.

In this post, I’ve collected three different places on the web that give me great inspiration.

If watching the news makes you believe that we’re “Going to hell in a hand-basket”, try some of these links; see if there is something that your heart may be telling you to do.

In Returning the Favor, Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs, “Returns the Favor” to people across the nation who selflessly give of themselves to help others.

Here are three of my favorites episodes;

The next set is for those of us who feel like we are not enough.

For when I feel like maybe I’ve crossed the line between hope and a twilight zone of some sort.

The persons in the I Am Second videos are from every walk of life, every lifestyle, every variation of behavior possible. They are every man. (and woman)

The third and last I’ll share here, is near and dear to my heart.

Rebuilding Together rehabilitates and modify homes for those with low income, disabled American veterans, and families with small children.

Rebuilding Together has 164 affiliates nationwide.

Rebuilding Together is a 501c3, and charges nothing to it’s clients. RT uses corporate dollars and volunteer labor to get it’s work done.

It’s main goal is to keep people safe, warm and dry.

Here are three videos to let you see more about them.

Whether you want to change your own circumstances, or be the one who can change someone else’s, take time to check out some of these videos, and get your own ideas rolling.

A mentor of mine from years ago was teaching about it being “too late”.

The part that stuck with me was “Don’t delay. Start today.”

Anything is possible. Make good choices!
