Healing…Touch

Scripture, The Holy Bible, is replete with examples of touch.

First mention of touch is in Genesis, when God tells Adam and Eve that if they touch the fruit of the tree, that they shall surely die. Genesis 3:3

It refers to becoming holy when touching the alter that is holy. Exodus 29:37

It refers to touching that which is unclean. Leviticus 5:3

It refers to he who touches you,  touching the apple of his eye: Zechariah 2:8

I could go on and on. 144 times the word touch is used in the Bible. (ESV)

The one I want to show you is this one; found in Mark chapter 16, the last part of the 18th verse;

They will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.

I’m not here to debate scripture, I just wanted to point out a thought I had some time ago about this verse. It showed up to me in conversation again last week. I’ve had much time to test my hypotheses on what I’m about to say, and I believe it to be true.

Notice, no where there in that verse does its say that you have to pray. No where in that verse does it say you have to speak. No dialogue appears necessary.

It simply says lay hands on. Touch. Hug? And they will recover.

It does not speak of what kind of sick; cold, flu, cancer, blind or deaf. It doesn’t speak of sick that is not evident in appearance; depression, mental challenges, fibromyalgia or a plethora of other things.

I have read stories, miraculous ones, where a newborn is close to death, when a sibling is placed touching their side or someone related or otherwise, holds on to them. Holds on to them like they are the most important thing in life at that moment; when suddenly, signs of life begin to return.

Many times, I have felt downtrodden, sad or just plain lonely, and someone holds my hand, puts their hand on my shoulder, or gives me a hug. No words. Just a simple touch. Amazingly, the despair, the sadness, the loneliness, begins to subside.

I have been a big proponent of hugs for a very long time. It’s a “Ministry” of sorts. I’ve hugged some, who simply refused to let go. When this happens I begin to imagine the energy of the Lord transferring from me to them. And you know what? I believe it does. When they finally let go, they say that they feel better.

Can you imagine? Something as simple as a hug, giving off healing power?

I know it’s true! I’ve read about it, seen it, felt it, and been a giver of it.

There is one disclaimer though. You have to “Know your audience” as they say. Not everyone is open to hugs, or even healing for that matter. (Imagine?) So you have to let them be. But for those who are open to it, a wondrous thing can occur.

So who’s with me? Can we all begin a hug fest today, and see where it takes us? There can be a whole lot of healing going on!

All You Need is Love

Today I sit to write about something that’s been on my heart for at least a year, perhaps even a little longer.

Fear is the block.

Fear mostly in that as much as we say we don’t care what people think, we really do. It is our nature to want folks to agree with us.

This year, I have learned though that we can disagree, and not be nasty about it. So I can say what I have to say, and not be afraid of what you think.

I want to think. I want you to think.

When two men always agree, one of them is unnecessary.” William Wrigley Jr. (Quote Source)

All that said, to say this;

Last November we elected a new President, and here is what I’ve observed.

I thought the hate talk would die down after a bit, but alas, it has not.

I don’t care which side of the aisle people reside on, Democrat or Republican, liberal, conservative, Christian, Catholic, Buddhist or Muslim, male, female, or LBGTQ. I have observed a type of speech that quite frankly breaks my heart.

This speech comes from those I know, and those I don’t, virtual friends and people on the street.

Here it is; They want to love, love, love. Run the world with love. Be love. Speak love.

And the moment someone says the name of our President, the spirit of wrath, and vitriol comes out of their mouths, obscenities that I cannot personally utter. In the next sentence, they are back to love, love, love.

Some leaders even stand in front of microphones and say awful things about those who voted for him. Excuse me, but wouldn’t that be over half of the nation that you’re bad mouthing?

Can I just say, leave the man alone and let him do his job? We have all heard the viciousness of verbal attacks launched on the President and his family. Can we just stop?

I have not always agreed with our previous Presidents, even the ones I liked. I didn’t bad mouth them, I used my voice in the voting booth.

I seldom have these conversations due to the angst and anger that is spewed after they begin.

I won’t. I can’t. My heart can’t take it.

Perhaps we need to begin some civil dialogue? Or not.

I can always use my voice in the voting booth.

5 for 5 Brain Dump – for January 16

If you don’t know what 5 for 5 Brain Dump is, Here to find out more.

We began to explore what blocks us. (Click the link above if you would like to join us!)

The prompt for the day was; My Block is Made Up Of …..

Here, in unedited, free flow writing is what I wrote.

My block is no longer made up of old sound tracks. What it is now is time/focus/eye strain. The only block I need, is my TIME BLOCK. Blocking out time for specific tasks, worked for me in the past. Then I stopped. I do not even know what the block it was that stopped me. But I took the time to make another TIME BLOCK schedule. There is a copy in my journal, on my desk, and one on my kitchen table. When I recognize that I’m straying, I need only check that schedule to get back on track.

Grateful? Yes. It feels so much better to be productive.

There is so much more that could be said here.

But it’s 5 minutes right?

I’ll have to return to this prompt again.

I hope you found it helpful.
