Reflections of Him

 Mirrors.

I’ve been hearing about them a lot lately.

 What is their purpose?

 To reflect.

What is it that my mirror reflects in the morning when I look into it?

 Of course what I see is messy hair,

elf tracks on my cheeks,

 red, puffy eyes, yet

without benefit of caffeine

to wake them up.

 Lot’s of work to do here before I can face the world.

1 Samuel 16:7 (ESV) But the LORD said to Samuel,  “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance,  but the LORD looks on the heart.”

Good thing.

The mirror has done its job on my physical appearance,

but apparently God is looking for something else.

According to the verse above,

God is looking at our heart. 

What could it be that He wants

 to see reflected there?

His glory.

He created us to be a reflection of His glory.

Revelation 5  Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne  a scroll written within and on the back,  sealed with seven seals. 2 And  I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, 4 and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5 And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold,  the Lion  of the tribe of Judah,  the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”

11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering  myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”

We see our own image in the mirror,

but God sees our hearts when they are given to His Son Jesus.

He sees past the image we see in the mirror.

He sees His Son in us.

The everlasting extension of His glory.

He made us like Him.

He made us in His image.

He made us so He would not be alone.

He made us to reflect His glory.

I often wonder if the image I project glorifies Him.

He made all the wonders of the world,

but He made ME – US – to glorify Him.

To rule and reign with Him.

Forever.

The Hair On My Floor

I firmly believe that God speaks to us every day.

I believe He is always talking.

 

We just do not always choose to listen.

 

He speaks through every day things.

A sunset, a baby’s smile, the caress of your husband’s hand on your cheek.

I think He also uses other more insignificant things to speak as well.

 

Keep this in mind during this post.

I’ll share with you what He spoke to me about this morning,

Through the dog hair on my kitchen floor.

 

What on earth is she talking about! She’s off her rocker!

No wait, just stay with me.

 

We have a big dog. Really big. 165 + pounds of dog. Over 38 inches tall big dog.

That’s a lot of hair dog.

No matter how much I sweep my floor,

There is always hair.

 

During the day, when I walk around my kitchen, it looks really fine.

Fine, like I’ll just skip sweeping today fine.

 

That was yesterday.

I found it much easier to read blogs and play Words With Friends instead of sweeping the floor.

 

This is today.

I awoke to the sun shining in on my freshly unswept kitchen floor.

There on my floor that looked fine in regular afternoon light,

was awash in brilliant early morning light.

Hair. Everywhere. Every inch. Hair.

 

How could it have piled up so quickly?

All that hair, I’m surprised there is any DOG left!

 

So what’s this about God speaking to us all the time?

And what does it have to do with the hair on my floor?

Well it made me ask myself some questions.

 

My life looks pretty good.

Here in the regular every day light of the afternoon.

 

But what would it look like if the Light of my

Lord and Savior Jesus was shining on my life in full brilliance!

Full morning sunlight, on this freshly unswept heart of mine?

 

What happens if I just once skip sweeping it out?

Just a little sin. Looks pretty good. Just a little sin.

Can’t hurt much. Just a little sin.

Piling up all over the floor of my soul.

 

One day turns into two and pretty soon I ‘d have to wonder if it is

possible for my entire heart to be covered over with my sin.

 

In Sunday school this morning we talked about keeping short accounts with God.

I think the principle is the same as keeping my floor swept up.

 

If I sweep my floor every day,

I don’t wake up to the shock of possibly being overrun with dog hair.

Dog hair that gets on everything.

My feet, my clothes, my coat, tracking all the way out to my car.

 

My sin is a bit like that hair.

If I do not keep short accounts with God,

meaning asking Him to clean me up the minute I sin,

then my sin gets on everything.

My heart, my mouth, my husband and it can even track all the way out to those I work with.

 

It just piles up and up.

Soon I’d have to ask “Is there any room for God in there?”

 

What about you?

Not your kitchen floor, but your heart?

That part of you that is eternal?

 

Is it on your regular cleaning schedule?

Or does it get pushed off for something more fun?

Authorizing Update Part Two

What do you do with this?

it sounds good and right to you.

 

It gets tough here because you need to keep the old programs running

 while you figure out the new one.

Overwhelming does not even begin to cover it.

This is the part where you need an administrators touch.

This is the place where you must give authority to that administrator to

come in and show you what to do and how to put this whole new entity

together.

 

First you must authorize the update.

Then  the update gets installed.

New files must be copied.

Your screen tells you that someone is calling for an update –

click to continue.

 

You must choose.  To click or not to click.

Then and only then can you continue.

 

Are you sure you want to do this before you commit to it?

It may need to take your time to make that commitment.

Once you click, you are on to unknown territory.

Click to continue.

 

You know how much work that click is going to be.

Do you really want to do it?

 

Weather it is a new way of dressing, thinking, acting, working,

not working, or a totally new way of life.

A new life update that concerns your decision about Christ.

 

To be sure, clicking that key is going to bring lots of changes.

But the promise is that that click will be worth the effort.

You’ll need to authorize and install that update.

You will need to delete some files.

You will for sure need to copy some new ones.

 

You’ll get that warning that you are calling for an update,

and the resistance to the change will be great.

 

You may even be scared into thinking it was all a mistake.

That’s pretty normal.

But you can do it.

You can trust God to do what He says He will.

You will find peace in your heart that only God can provide.

You sense of a level of belonging that you have never

even knew existed.

You will have an assurance that all will be well because He is residing

inside your heart.

 

And those annoying pop ups?

Some are not as scary as they seem.

Besides, who cares if they are scary anyway?

You’ve said that about less important updates.

God’s word the Bible tells the truth about them.

This amazing manual is the best troubleshooting guide ever written.

 

So I would encourage you, here at the beginning of this year,

to decide on this upgrade.
