Walk Worthy

*

…to be fully pleasing, to walk worthy of you…

These words,

The chorus of a song over and over.

In my ears and in my head.

Am I truly walking worthy of Him?

It is indeed the desire of my heart.

Funny, not as in ha ha,

But funny as in sad, that when I think I am “walking worthy, then a besetting sin runs up behind me and tries to overtake me.

Yuck!

Some scriptures come to mind;

Romans 12:3 (NIV1984)  For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

But I do not believe I am not thinking of myself too highly.

As a matter of fact, I am finally thinking of myself in the manner that God made me in the first place, in the secret place.

Proverbs 16:18 (NIV 1984) Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

I believe my spirit is less and less haughty all the time.

I am requiring myself to relinquish each prideful thing that I recognize in myself..

Hebrews 12:1 (NIV1984) Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Oh, there it is.

Everything that hinders my walk with Him.

The sinful thoughts that turn into sinful actions if I continue to entertain them.

Those things that entangle me coming up from by-gone days.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (NLT) We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God.  We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

Here I see it.

The answer.

My sin begins in my thoughts.

I must capture them before they run away with me.

I must choose to stop them,

by changing them into thoughts that are God centered.

Scripture says just that.

James 1:14-16 (NLT) 14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions.  And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death16 So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters.

Would you pray with me?

Lord;

Help me not to be mislead.

I want to walk worthy of You.

I want to be worthy of the sacrifice of Your Son Jesus Christ.

Help me not only to capture those thoughts,

but to lay them at the cross of Jesus.

His blood paid for them.

They are His.

I no longer lay claim to them.

Let my thoughts be Your thoughts God.

Yours and Yours alone.

Amen.

If you have any thoughts you would like to share,

about your walk,

or the answers you have found,

I’d love to read them in the comments.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Dazed and Confused

Well after the elections yesterday,

It is a sure thing that at least 50 % of us are dazed and confused.

No matter which way we voted,

It was clearly a split decision.

Questions we’ve been hearing all day long;

So what does this do to or for our country?

What does this say about our standing with our neighbors?

What does this say about our standing with God?

Will we ever be able to agree to disagree?

Can we speak civilly to each other after this?

If we wanted the decision this way,

Could we respect an opposing view?

If we hold an opposing view,

Could we respect the office?

Many decisions were made in different parts of the country.

We can agree with them,

or we can disagree.

We can, if we choose,

treat each other with respect and not disdain.

The disdain tactic has never really worked.

We have only walked away bloodied and damaged,

and farther down the road of division.

I certainly do not agree with every decision that was made,

nor do you,

but over the years since America has been America,

our sons and daughters,

fathers and mothers,

uncles and aunts,

have given their lives so we could have this freedom.

This freedom to disagree.

So today, I choose,

to speak with respect,

even when I do not agree.

I choose to honor others in their right to believe what they wish.

I choose to do what my mother and her mother before her said over and over again;

“If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.”

Could I ask the same of you?

Some changes need to be made in our hearts and our minds.

Following is a song about One Thing that never changes.

Please enjoy it as you consider these other choices that need to be made.

Fall Thoughts

*

Quiet time this morning was a bit different.

Instead of watching the sun rise in the east as usual,

I sat my my window to watch it rain.

Not much rain, just sparse, big drops.

Big drops, dropping on yellow maple leaves.

The drops caused some of the leaves to look like they were shivering.

Some other big drops caused the leaves to come loose from their branches,

and fall gently to the ground.

Hypnotically I watched as each leaf fell.

Some floated straight down while others appeared to drift off to the side.

What are the things in my life that hang on, and continue to shiver though dead?

What are the things in my life that let loose when hit with the water of the Word?

What are the things that fall straight away?

What are the things that drift off to the side, hidden from the path of the rake?

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.  2 Corinthians 5:17

What will it take to shake loose the useless parts of my old life?

Those things that crowd out the newness that Christ created for me.

What will it take  to shake off the old to make room for the new?

Those things that no longer fit in my life.

If all things are new, then I am I holding on out of habit?

I get to CHOOSE to let them go.

It’s already been done!

He has made me new.

All I need do is accept it,

To CHOOSE it.

He has raked away the old to make room for the new life that is already waiting inside to bloom.

What do you think?

Are there any old leaves hanging on to your life that need to be loosed and raked away?

Are there any habits left that will slow the blooming process that awaits you?

Please join the “Rescue” tab at the top of this page if you would like some help with that.
