Family. Friends. Familiar folks. Strangers. Yourself.
All have something in common.
Everyone; absolutely everyone, wants to have a place to be.
A place where everybody knows your name.
There is a longing to belong; somewhere.
What is this desire?
Where does it come from?
You may have your own ideas on this, but here, in this space; I’ll share what I believe to be true.
First here is a scripture I love;
He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (ESV)
Note; God has put eternity in the hearts of men – Eternity fits in there? What will you do with yours?
And one more;
Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. They pass through the Valley of Baka, (Valley of Weeping/Sadness) they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. Psalm 84:4-6 (NIV)
Note; Hearts set on pilgrimage. (A journey to a place with special significance.) The people spoken of here have walked through some hard times; Times of tears and sadness, and it is possible to come out on the other side with joy!
For I do not want to see you now and make only a passing visit; I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits. 1 Corinthians 16:7 (ESV)
They just want to go home; A place where we would like to spend some time.
For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone. Ephesians 2:18-20 (ESV)
If we know Jesus, we are no longer strangers, but people with a home to live in.
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. Philippians 3:20-21 (ESV)
Knowing Christ, our citizenship is in Heaven.
Come to me, (Home) all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 (ESV)
We have a heavenly home, where we are not only known, but He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4 (ESV)
Back to the eternity idea;
Ever wonder what the hole in your heart was?
You can’t describe it.
You know it’s there, but it’s identity remains a mystery.
“There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ.― Blaise Pascal
Why not try filling that space by going to the God who created it and knows the most about it?
It will feel like going home.
See you next time.
